Now is the time to come together to save public housing.
We are hosting an emergency community meeting on Thursday 12th September at 6:30pm at The Huddle, 204-206 Arden St, North Melbourne.
You may have heard the news that the Victorian Labor Government has signed contracts for the demolition of public housing towers in North Melbourne and Flemington. We understand Labor’s plan is for a private developer to build mostly private, expensive housing on this land. Labor plans to start demolition in 2025. The new buildings may include some community housing, but no public housing.
We know this was distressing news for many public housing residents.
Signing the demolition contracts gives the government the ability to evict people, and they are already putting pressure on residents to move out.
If we come together now, before they tear apart the community, we believe we can stop the Labor Government moving you from your home and destroying public housing.
